SIRAJGANJ: A ‘top criminal’ was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kata Wapda area of the district town early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Bablu, 32, son of A Wahab of Oitara village under Sadar upazila.

He was accused in three murder cases including Sadar upzila Awami League youth and sports affairs secretary Saiful Islam killing case.

Confirming the matter, RAB-12 Sirajganj Special Company Commander (ASP) Ashok Pal banglanews, acting on tip off that some top criminals gathered in the area, RAB members raided the area at around 2:00am.

Sensing the presence of RAB, criminals opened fire aiming them. In retaliation, law enforcers also fired back that triggered a 15-minute gunfight.

At one stage, Bablu caught in the line of fire and died.

Later, a revolver, a shotgun, huge locally made firearms were recovered from the spot.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. A case will be filed in the connection.
