HC postpones Kurigram-4

DHAKA: The rescheduled poll in two polling centres of Kurigram-4 constituency was postponed by an order of the High Court.

Jatiya Party (JP) candidate Ruhul Amin bagged 30,544 votes while his nearest opponent Zakir Hossain of Awami League got 23,946 votes in 104 polling centres out of 106 centres in Kurigram-4 constituency on January 5 national election.

Difference of votes between them is 6,598 and the numbers of voters in these two centres are 7,257.

Vote casting in the two centres was postponed due to violence on January 5 polls.

The court on Wednesday ordered the postponement for four weeks after the AL candidate pleaded for recasting of votes in several centres.

Voting in seven other constituencies, Dinajpur-4, Gaibandha-1, Gaibandha-3, Gaibandha-4, Bogra-7, Jessore-5 and Laxmipur-1 will be held on Thursday (January 16).
