HABIGANJ: Some 40 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over previous conflict at Baniachang upazila of the district on Thursday.
Witnesses said that the villagers of Ikram and North Sangar locked into a conflict over gambling in a village fair on Tuesday.
Later, the conflict led to a fierce clash with local weapons among the villagers at 10:00am on Thursday that left at least 40 people injured critically.
On information, police rushed in and opened fire to bring the situation under control.
The injured were admitted to several hospitals and local clinics.
Officer-in-Charge of Baniachang Thana Shamsul Arefin told banglanews that additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert further chaos.
