Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to reconsider the decision on imposition of 15% value added tax (VAT) on Dhaka’s metro rail.
Replying to a question on imposing 15% VAT on metro rail, the minister said, “There is no VAT on metro rail of India. Why should we enforce VAT on our metro rail?”
He further said, “Works on six MRT lines will be completed in 2023. Of those, two are underground rails. Dhaka is the integral part of the plan of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
Obaidul Quader made the remarks at a seminar titled ‘Branding on Dhaka Metro rail’ held in a Dhaka hotel today.
