A Dhaka court today (Nov 21) sent former senior secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohibul Haque to jail in a case lodged over the murder of Juba Dal leader Shamim.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order.
Earlier today, police produced him before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in the case.
The defence, however, argued for his bail.
Since the main case documents were not produced before the court at the hearing, the court sent the accused to jail to hold the hearing later.
Earlier on November 20, Mohibul Haque was arrested from Mohakhali DOHS area at around 11 pm.
According to the case documents, BNP called a rally in the capital's Naya Paltan area on October 28, 2023.
To counter the BNP rally, the then ruling Awami League convened a counter-rally on the same day in the capital.
The Awami League men with the support of law enforcing agencies attacked BNP rally which left Shamim Mollah killed and injured many of its leaders and activists.
Earlier on September 24 this year, the case was filed against 704 people including AL general secretary Obaidul Quader.
