FROM SHAHBAGH: The three-day long road march of Gonojagoron Moncho has begun from Dhaka to Thakurgoan on Friday morning, protesting the recent communal violence.
People from all walks of life started thronging Shahbagh Chattar in the capital from morning to join the road march.
Some five hundred people by eight buses and ten other vehicles joined the road march motorcade.
After holding 22 roadside rallies at different places including Ashulia, Mirzapur, Tangail, Sirajgonj and Bogra, the activists of Gonojagoron Moncho will stay in Thakurgoan town on Saturday night.
Later the road march will start for Goria of Thakurgoan on Sunday morning.
Later, relief goods will be distributed among the victim in Goria of the district.
Gonojagoron Moncho Spokesman Dr Imran H Sarker told banglanews, “The road march is for making violence and revenge free Bangladesh to protect communal harmony across the country.”
Earlier on January 6, in post-election violence, activists of BNP and its main ally Jamaat reportedly attacked ruling Awami League men and members of the Hindu community in eight villages under Sadar upazila, leaving 15 people injured.
The attackers also vandalised and looted a number of houses and shops belonging to the ruling party men and Hindus.
Besides, a Hindu temple and idols of their goddess were vandalized during the mayhem.
Soon after the incident, hundreds of locals, mostly Hindus of the eight villages, have fled their homes and taken refuge elsewhere in fear of further BNP-Jamaat attack.
