30 shops gutted in Mymensingh

MYMENSINGH: At least 30 shops were gutted as a devastating fire broke out at Kashiganj Bazar under Tarakanda upazila of the district early Saturday.

Local sources said that the fire originated from electric short circuit of a warehouse and soon engulfed adjacent shops around 12:30am.

On information, three fire fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after two hour efforts.

Confirming the matter, Tarakanda Thana Officer-in-Charge Ali Ahmed told banglanews, “The fire gutted 25-30 shops in which damaged properties worth about Tk 2 crores.”

Besides, the shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up Tk 5 crores.
