NATORE: Assailants gunned down Kolom Union Parishad Chairman, also leader of ruling Awami League, in Hazipur area under Singra upazila of the district on Saturday noon.

The deceased was identified as Fazlur Rahman Funu, chairman of Kolom UP in the upazila.

Police said, a gang of masked assailants intercepted Fazlur and chopped him randomly and then shot him while he was going to his home by motorbike at 12:30pm, leaving him injured critically.

He succumbed to his inquires after taking to Natore Sadar Hospital.
