LAMA, BANDARBAN: A farmer was killed as a contingent of angry elephant attacked him in Ashartali of Pradhanjhiri under Nikhangchhari Upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam, 60.

Locals said that a herd of wild elephants attacked the victim while local farmers are trying to save paddy field from attacks of the elephants. The elephants trampled and smashed him mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.

Later, other farmers recovered the body.    

Nikhangchhari Thana Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
