Bashundhara Group Vice Chairman Shafiat Sobhan has taken an initiative to make an indomitable woman in Shariatpur economically self-reliant.

Selina, from Bilaskhan village in Shariatpur, has been struggling to survive with seven daughters since the death of her husband, the family’s only breadwinner.

Shafiat, also a philanthropic entrepreneur, recently came to know about the family’s hardships from the news, and was deeply moved.

He is among those who respond at the earliest whenever a humanitarian need arises anywhere in the country.

On Wednesday, on orders from the young entrepreneur, Bashundhara Food and Beverage handed over a certain amount of food items along with a cow, and its calf to Selina to make her self-reliant.

Bashundhara Food Deputy Sales Manager Zillur Rahman and Faridpur distributor Nazmul Alam handed over the gifts to Selina at her village home under the municipal area of the district town.

Selina Hossain and Hakeem Bepari, her late husband, gave birth to seven girls in the hope of having a son. Hakeem Bepari died while suffering from a serious illness he contracted four months back. Now, Selina lives in a dilapidated hut with her four daughters: Jannat, Putul, Tia, and Ayesha, having married off the rest of the three with much difficulty.

However, the married girls now do not come to stay in her house, as it is a shame for them in the society to bring their husbands to a broken house.

Living in the apparently deserted house, Selina and her four daughters, also struggle to manage a three-course meal everyday. The neighbours are their only hope for sourcing the whatever amount of food they consume each day.

Selina Hossain expressed her gratitude and offered prayers for the vice chairman of Bashundhara Group after receiving a cow and its calf as well as food items as gifts.
