Bangladesh Bank (BB) has amended the overseas travel restrictions for bank officials.
In a previous circular, the BB permitted allowed bank officials to travel abroad for Hajj-Umrah, medical treatment, and other emergencies at their own expense.
The central bank's latest guidelines now allow bank officials to travel abroad to participate in business meetings with foreign partner banks. This will play a significant role in official work, including attending seminars and workshops. In addition, officials may travel abroad for personal purposes if they self-finance their special needs.
On 22 May 2022, the BB imposed a ban on foreign travel for officials of the central bank, private and state-owned banks, financial institutions, and leasing companies to curb foreign exchange spending.
Subsequently, in another circular, the Banking Regulation and Policy Department (BRPD) amended the notification, allowing travel abroad for Hajj-Umrah, medical treatment, and other special needs. Foreign nationals working in banks were permitted to return to their home countries, and officials in the Bangladesh branch of foreign banks could visit their head offices.
Officials will also be able to participate in training, meetings, seminars, workshops, and study tours funded by foreign organisations.
