Six platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members have been deployed to restore order after a clash broke out between students from three colleges in the Demra and Jatrabari areas of Dhaka.
The BGB members have taken position in the two areas to help control the situation.
Md Shariful Islam, a public relations officer of the BGB, confirmed the deployment of BGB personnel on Monday (Nov 25).
He said that the BGB had been deployed to calm the violent situation between the students in the Demra and Jatrabari areas.
Since this morning, the violent situation in the Demra and Jatrabari areas started to escalate. By 3:00 PM, hundreds of people, including students from Mahbubur Rahman Molla College, local residents, and curious onlookers, gathered outside the college.
To manage the situation, members of the army, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Armed Police Battalion (APBN), and police were present at the scene.
Students from Government Shahid Sohrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul Government College were not found around the area.
DMP’s Wari Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Saleh Uddin, who was present at the site, said, "We have been informed that students from Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College are trapped inside the campus."
