Traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway has now slowed over following excessive vehicle pressure and disruption of the toll collection at Bangabandhu Bridge on Friday night.
According to media reports, the situation has been particularly severe on the 13-kilometer stretch of the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway, from Elenga to the toll plaza, since the early hours of Saturday.
Earlier on Friday (14 June), bridge authorities halted toll collection on the Bangabandhu Bridge from midnight until late at night due to heavy traffic. This led to significant congestion on the road. Under such a situation, transport workers and commuters have been facing difficulties.
In-charge of the Elenga Highway Police Outpost Mir Md Sajedur Rahman said that traffic has been moving slowly since early morning.
The reckless driving has caused vehicles to park on the road, exacerbating the situation. Police are actively working to clear the road, and traffic is expected to normalise during the day, he added.
