At least nine people were killed in landslides triggered by heavy rain at Rohingya camps in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar today (June 19).

The deceased include eight Rohingyas and a Bangladesh citizen.

The deceased were identified as M Hares, 12, Futuni, 34, M Kamal, Selina Khatun, M Meher, Joinab Bibi, Hossain Ahmad, his wife Anowara Begum and their son Abdul Karim, 4.

The bodies of the deceased were kept under the custody of the upazila administration.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Md Shamsud Douza confirmed the matter.

He said the landslides killed three Rohingyas at Camp-9, four at Camp-10, and one at Camp-8 (east). 

Besides, a local individual died at Camp-14, he added.

Members of Fire Service and Civil Defence are continuing rescue operation.
