DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday scraped section 32 (Ka) of amended Anti-Corruption Commission law that curtailed its authority to sue government officials.
The verdict declared the provision of curtailing the power of the ACC to sue government officials as ‘unconstitutional’.
After the final hearing, a HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order.
HC’s deputy attorney general Bishwajit Roy told banglanews that from now on government officials will not get any special facilities to be sued in the cases of corruption.
The HC observed that the provision of curtailing the ACC’s authority is unconstitutional and has no legal base, he added.
Advocate Manzil Morshed filed a writ petition on November 24 on behalf of four lawyers of environment and human rights organization called Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
Deputy attorney general Bishwajit Roy stood for government.
