The death toll from the recent flooding in 11 districts has increased to 59, with five more deaths reported as of Saturday (Aug 31), according to the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry.
Among the latest casualties, four were from Feni, and one was from Noakhali district.
The floods have so far claimed 14 lives in Cumilla, six in Chattogram, 23 in Feni, nine in Noakhali, three in Cox’s Bazar, and one each in Brahmanbaria, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar, and Lakshmipur districts.
Of the victims, 41 were men, six were women, and 12 were children.
Additionally, 6,96,995 families are stranded across 68 upazilas in the 11 flood-affected districts, including Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox’s Bazar.
In total, 54,57,702 people have been impacted in 504 municipalities or unions across these districts.
According to the ministry, the flood situation is stabilizing in Chattogram, Habiganj, Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar, and Khagrachhari, while conditions are improving in Moulvibazar, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur.
Meanwhile, 3,93,305 people have sought refuge in 3,928 shelter centers, where 36,139 domestic animals are also being housed, according to ministry data.
