In memory of the martyrs of the August Revolution, a day-long debate competition was held for college students in Gaibandha, under the slogan “Build a Bridge of Friendship with Beauty.”
The event, organized by the Bashundhara Shuvosangho district committee, took place on Thursday at the Surbani Sangsad Auditorium.
Gaibandha Government College Principal, Prof. Khalilur Rahman, attended the event as the chief guest.
Four teams, consisting of 12 debaters from Gaibandha Government College, participated in the competition. The event followed a league format, with semi-finals in various disciplines, culminating in a knockout stage.
At the start of the event, a minute of silence was observed to honor the martyrs.
In the final round, second-year student Rakiba Sultana and her team members Subah and Ork faced off against first-year student Shamsunnahar Nahar and her teammates Hadi and Ghalib, debating the topic “Corruption is the main obstacle to creating a non-discriminatory state.”
Rakiba’s team scored 39 points from the judges, winning the championship, while Nahar’s team finished as runners-up with 37 points. Rakiba was named the best speaker.
A large number of students and Shuvosangho supporters attended, cheering on the competitors.
