Appellate Division Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam has been appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, following Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed’s departure for official visits to Türkiye and the UAE.

Md Shafiqul Islam, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Appellate Division confirmed the matter. 

Dr. Refaat departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here at 7:00 am today to join his first programme in Türkiye.

In Türkiye, he will join the 63rd founding anniversary of the Constitutional Court in Ankara and participate in a symposium at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul. 

On April 28, he is scheduled to speak at an international conference on "Climate Justice and the Constitution" organized by New York University-Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
