Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has directed the Election Commission to block National Identity Card of Former Director General (DG) of the National Identity Card (NID) registration division Sultanuzzaman Md. Sahel Uddin.
The EC officials of the NID section have confirmed the matter on Sunday (April 27).
According to the letter sent by the ACC to the EC, the Commission’s Deputy Director Md Saiduzzaman applied for a travel ban and NID block against Sultanuzzaman Md Sahel Uddin, former Managing Director of Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF), and another individual.
After a hearing, the ACC granted the request in the interest of a fair investigation and instructed a travel ban and NID blocking for both individuals in public interest.
Before taking charge at BMTF, Sultanuzzaman served as the Director General of the NID Registration Wing. During his tenure, an agreement was signed with French technology company Oberthur for smart cards, but the company failed to deliver the cards on time, causing continued problems for the EC.
Recently, the EC also blocked the NID of Sheikh Hasina and 10 of her family members. Blocking a NID disrupts access to citizen services.
