The High Court today accepted Dr Zubaida Rahman’s petition, excusing her 578-day delay in filing an appeal against her three-year jail sentence in a graft case.
The order was passed by Justice Md Khasruzzaman, after senior advocates Zainul Abedin and Barrister Kaiser Kamal argued on her behalf. Asif Hassan represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC had filed the case against Tarique Rahman, Zubaida Rahman, and one other for amassing illegal wealth and hiding asset details.
On August 2, 2023, a lower court sentenced Tarique to nine years and Zubaida to three years.
Her sentence was suspended for one year by the Home Ministry on September 22, 2024.
