Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds are likely in several parts of Bangladesh over the next 24 hours, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Saturday (May 17).
According to the BMD’s latest bulletin, rainfall is expected in a few areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, and Sylhet divisions, while isolated showers may occur in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions. Some areas in Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet may experience moderately heavy to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, a mild heatwave is sweeping across districts including Dhaka, Tangail, Gopalganj, Rajbari, Sirajganj, Chandpur, Bandarban, Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jashore, and Jhenaidah. The heatwave may ease in some locations.
A trough of westerly low pressure lies from West Bengal to the North Bay, extending across the southwestern region of Bangladesh. Day and night temperatures are expected to fall slightly across the country.
The highest temperature recorded on Friday was 37.5°C in Khulna, while the minimum temperature early Saturday dropped to 21.0°C in Tangail and Ishurdi.
Tarash in Rajshahi division recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, with 67mm reported until 6am Saturday.
Sunset in Dhaka is expected at 6:35 pm today, with sunrise at 5:15 am on Sunday.
