Bangladesh received $161.9 crore in remittances in the first 17 days of May, according to data released by Bangladesh Bank on Sunday.
The data showed on average, expatriates sent $9.47 crore daily, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s daily inflow of $7.51 crore in May.
State-owned banks handled $49.33 crore, while the specialized agricultural bank processed $15.09 crore. Private commercial banks received the highest share at $96.27 crore, and foreign banks facilitated $31.30 lakh.
Among individual banks, Islami Bank recorded the highest remittance inflow, totaling $27.78 crore.
Officials noted that the steady rise in remittance inflow reflects positive trends in expatriate earnings and financial transfers.
