Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is expected to visit India soon for a long-awaited reunion with his mother.
According to reports, Joy, who recently acquired U.S. citizenship, has applied for a new passport after his Bangladeshi one was revoked. His visit comes at a time when Bangladesh’s interim government has officially banned the Awami League and its affiliated organizations.
Sheikh Hasina fled Bangladesh on August 5, 2024, following a student-led uprising and has been residing in India since then. This will be her first in-person meeting with Joy in nine months.
Exiled Awami League leaders have expressed optimism about Joy’s visit, hoping it will lead to discussions on the party’s future. The ban on the Awami League prevents any political activities until trials against its leaders are completed.
The exact date of Joy’s meeting with Sheikh Hasina has not been disclosed, but sources indicate it will take place in India.
