6 suspected dacoits lynched in Gazipur

GAZIPUR: Six suspected members of a gang of dacoits were beaten to death in a lynch-mob reprisal in Enayetpur area of Kashimpur in Sadar upazila early Sunday after a daring double-dacoity.

Three of the dead were identified as Kamal Hossain, 35, Shukkur Ali, 40, and Abdul Malek, 30. Identities of three others could not be known.

Police later arrested six injured gang members from the scene and sent them to Gazipur Sadar Hospital. They are Nuruddin, 30, Abdullah, 35, Lutfor Rahman, 30, Sujon, 25, Aslam, 30, and Rafiq, 32.

Police and locals said a gang stormed the house of expatriate Jahangir Alam at Gachhbari village in Kaliakoir upazila at about 2:15am. They broke open the collapsible gate and looted the house.

“The gangsters held the residents hostage at gunpoint and looted 18 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 25,000 in cash,” said Joydevpur thana OC Abdur Rashid.

The hooligans also swooped on the nearby house of Ajmat Ali and looted Tk 5.5 lakh and three tolas of gold ornament the same way and fled the scene by a getaway bus, he added.  

Informed by local people, police chased the gang. Sensing the presence of the law-enforcers, they stopped the bus and tried to make away.

On suspicion, villagers stopped and beat up the suspects at Enayetpur at about 6am, leaving two dead on the spot. Another four of the gang succumbed to their injuries at Gazipur Sadar Hospital.

Syed Ajharul Islam, in-charge of nearby Chakraborty Police Box, told banglanews24.com.bd that police recovered some gold ornaments and money--Indonesian Rupee and Malaysian Ringgit. The bus used in the robbery was seized.
