DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel rescued a 15-year-old schoolgirl in the city’s Banasree area Saturday, 13 days after she had allegedly been abducted from Kushtia.

The girl was identified as Alo Khatun, daughter of Mosharaf Hossain of Jugia Mathpara village and a class-ten student of Adarsha School.

Seven suspects, including six members of a family, were arrested in connection with the incident, RAB said at a press conference Sunday.

The arrested persons are Sohidul Islam Moni, 27, his father Abdur Rashid Montu, 57, mother Rani Khatun, 45, brother Rony Sheikh, 22, sisters Simu, 27, and Emu, 18, and matchmaker Chunnu, 40.

RAB officials said that acting on a tip-off, an intelligence team of the elite force, led by Major Mohammad Redwanul Islam, raided Banasree area and rescued Alo.

The press conference was told that Moni along with his mother and younger brother “kidnapped” Alo from Kushtia and brought her to Dhaka as she had refused to marry him.
