BOGRA: A court here Wednesday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his wife.

The convict is Mohammad Golam Rabbani Khan, 40, of village Basudevbati in Kahalu upazila.

After examining the records and witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Nitai Chandra Saha handed down the judgment in presence of the convict.

According to the prosecution, Golam Rabbani on November 28, 2006 informed his neighbours that his wife Shirina Khatun, 30, died from snakebite.

Shirina was buried the following day after filing of a UD case with Kahalu thana.

But, later, Shirina’s brother Sirajul Haque filed a murder case with the ‘Kha’ region Magistrate Court on December 5 the same year.

After investigation, the IO of the case submitted chargesheet to the court on March 31, 2008 accusing Golam Rabbani of killing his wife by injecting poison.
