Cadet missing in bay after fall from ship

CHITTAGONG: A cadet of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) went missing after he fell into the sea from a ship at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port Monday.

The victim was identified as Shubhanker Bhattacharya, a trainee cadet of the BNS Banglar Urmi.

Navy, Coastguard and divers’ team of the Chittagong Port were continuing rescue operation.

Managing Director of BSC Commodore Maksumul Qader told banglanews24.com.bd, “Shubhanker slipped into the sea from the ladder while boarding the ship from a boat at the B Anchorage at about 9am.”

Chittagong port secretary Syed Farhad Uddin said rescue ship of the port Kandari-8 and three teams of Navy and Coast Guard are conducting the rescue operation.

“But the rescue operation is being hampered due to inclement weather,” he said.

Shubhanker joined the BSC as a cadet last April. His job is to be regularized after three months.
