20 fishermen missing as 5 trawlers capsize in Bay

BAGERHAT: Twenty fishermen went missing as five fishing trawlers capsized in coastal areas in Shoronkhola due to rough weather caused by depression over the northwest Bay.

Alauddin, a fishing trader of Kochikhali told banglanew24.com.bd that the trawlers carrying 50 fishermen, sailed for hilsha fishing in the area at noon was caught in tidal waves and sank.

Following the incident, 30 fishermen managed to swim ashore.

Later, three trawlers were also rescued.

Cost Guard commander of West zone Lt Lokman Hakim told banglanews24.com.bd, “The coast guards are continuing the rescue operation.”
