Information Minister asks DCs to take steps against obscenity, piracy

DHAKA: Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad Monday asked the deputy commissioners to take measures against piracy and screening of obscene movies in the cinema halls across the country.

The minister gave the directives on Monday on the second day of the 3-day conference of the deputy commissioners in the city.

Emerging from the meeting, the minister told reporters that he asked the DCs to stop screening of obscene movies and piracy.

“At the same time, they were also directed to take initiative in building playgrounds and setting up libraries for the development of country’s youth folk and protecting the rare objects having archeological value,” he said.

Mentioning the Prime Minister’s initiative in setting up a library and constructing a rest house at the ancestral house of former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu at Bardi village in Sonargaon upazila, the Narayanganj DC said implementation of the scheme is being delayed despite holding a number of meetings.
