5,200 bottles phensidyl seized in Savar ; 2 held

SAVAR: Police seized 5,200 bottles of Phensidyl syrup and held two alleged drug peddlers on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital early Sunday.

Acting on a secret information that a truck with a consignment of the smuggled phensidyl were being transported to Dhaka from the northern region, Highway police and Ashulia thana police took position in Bishmail area and seized the vehicle at early hours.

They recovered 5,200 bottles of banned cough syrup from the truck and arrested two people.

Meanwhile, allegations have been raised against the law enforcers that they first held four drug peddlers, but, later, freed two of them.

Ashulia thana OC Sirajul Islam, however, denied the allegation.

A case was filed in this connection.
