Road mishap kills 3, injures 20 in Tangail

TANGAIL: Two separate road mishaps killed three persons and injured 20 others on Dhaka-Tangail highway on Sunday night and Monday, police said.

The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam, 32, Firoz, 27, and Masud Mia, an Awami League leader of Bahuria union under Mirzapur upazila.

The injured were rushed to Mirzapur Kamudini Hospital.          

Police and local sources said the accident took place when Dhaka-bound bus of Binimoy Paribahan and Jhatika Paribahan collided head on with a Tangail-bound truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway at about 1:30pm.

Bus passenger Jahangir Alam died on the spot and truck driver Firoz died on the way to Kumudini hospital.

In another incident, a bus on Sunday night ran over Masud Mia at Mirzapur Bypass bus stand area. Masud was general secretary of Awami League’s Bahuria union of Mirzapur upazila. He died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
