Homage to language martyrs: Shaheed Minar now in Germany

DHAKA: The Germans will pay respects to the martyrs for the 1952 language movement of Bangladesh by building ‘Shaheed Minar’ in the European country.

According to a message from Bangladesh High Commission in Germany Thursday, the German government has decided to replicate the ‘Shaheed Minar’ that speaks a volume about the struggles of the Bengalis as well as of all language groups across the globe.

Visiting Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni had a vivid discussion in this regard with Foreign Minister and Deputy Chancellor Gudio Westerwelle of Germany Wednesday.

Besides, Finance Assistance and Development Minister Dirk Niebel assured assistance of Germany for building `Digital Bangladesh.`

A memorandum of understanding about the intercultural assistance of the two countries was also signed at the foreign ministry levels of the two countries.

Dipu Moni also sought help of Germany and multilateral agencies for tackling the impacts of global warming and for renewable power generation.
