SAVAR: Ali Reza Chowdhury Tuhin, an arrested labour leader, opened a Pandora’s box in his confessional statement to police that US NGOs are involved in the unrest in Bangladesh’s apparel sector, official sources said.

They said he made the disclosure during interrogation by high officials of Ashulia police station.

Sub-Inspector of Ashulia thana Saiful Islam said, " Tuhin informed police in preliminary interrogation that their adviser, trade union leader Montu Ghosh, presently in jail custody, used to be paid Tk 80,000 per month from a US-based NGO."

“Besides, he used to visit America every one or two months and more than one NGO assist them in this work," Saiful said, quoting Tuhin’s statement.   

Police arrested Tuhin in two separate cases with a loaded foreign-made revolver and five bombs at Palashbari of Ashulia Friday.

He was produced before the court Saturday and police prayed for a five-day remand and the court granted one-day remand.

Investigation officer of the case additional police super Mozammel Haque said Tuhin divulged “important information”.
