DHAKA: Two gangs of goons fought gunfight in broad daylight in the capital’s Jatrabari area Sunday, leaving one dead and two wounded.

The deceased was identified as Rinku, 26, and the injured as Swapan and Faysal. They are residents of Hatkhola area.

Jatrabari police said the gunfight occurred in front of a house near Kutubkhali School at about 11:45am between Sagor group and Rinku group in a sequel to their rivalries “over establishing supremacy in the area”.

“Rinku was shot dead on the spot during the encounter,” said one police official of the thana.

Local people later sent the injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, after the gunshots stopped.

The hospital authorities said a bomb was found in Swapan’s pocket.
