RANGAMATI: An activist of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) was killed in Baghaichhari upazila of the hill district on Monday night, in what appears to be a repeat of periodical terrorist acts in the once-restive hills.

The deceased, Shuvash Chakma, 40, was a member of the reformist group of the PCJSS that had led over two decades of bush war in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

Shuvash’s family members said that miscreants stormed into their house and shot indiscriminately, leaving Shuvas Chakma dead on the spot at around 2 am.

Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Shuvash was once associated with PCJSS but distanced himself for a year, his family members said.

Anup Kumar Chakma, Baghaichhari upazila convener of the PCJSS reformist group, accused Santu Larma-backed PCJSS members of the killing.

However, Assistant Publication and Information Secretary of PCJSS Sajib Chakma denied.

Shuvash’s body was sent to Khagrachhari Hospital morgue. A case was filed.
