Land registration through PPP, digitized recordkeeping on cards: law minister

DHAKA: Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sunday said land-registration system could be run through public-private partnership while recordkeeping done perfectly through digitizing the land management.

“The government is working to digitalize the land-registration and documentation system to mitigate the sufferings of the common people of the country,” said the minister.

He said if the digital system runs, the sufferings and the expenditure of the common people would be reduced.

“The land registration under the digital system would be executed through PPP,” he told a press briefing after a meeting with a World Bank team.

The minister also said digitization would improve the outmoded land-registration process, which is reportedly fraught with malpractice.

He also informed that the World Bank and IFC have assured of taking up a project on digitizing the land management.

He said the WB has given a draft proposal and the proposal would be finalized after a review.

Edward C Cook, World Bank’s senior expert on land administration, and Chapal Chowdhury, adviser of the International Finance Corporation, met with the minister at his office.
