DHAKA: The cyclonic storm “Phailin”(with ecp 1002hpa) over east central bay and adjoining Southeast Bay & North Andaman sea moved northwestwards and now lies over east central bay and adjoining west central bay.
It was centered at 9:00am Thursday about 920-km South-Southeast of Chittagong port, 825 kms South-Southeast of Cox’s Bazar port and 950-km southeast of Mongla port, met office says.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a west-northwesterly direction.
Maximum sustained wind speed within 54-km of the storm centre is about 62-kph rising to 88-kph in gusts or squalls.
The met office bulletin also said that sea will remain very rough near the storm centre.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted distant warning signal number two.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay & deep sea have been advised to remain close to coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
In association with rain of thunder showers temporary South or South Easterly gusty or squally wind speed 45-60 Kph is likely to occur over the regions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet wherein riverports shall hoist cautionary signal number one.
