Death toll rises to 3

DHAKA: The death toll rose to three as another injured died after the Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Madrasa blast incident at Lalkhan Bazar of the port city Chittagong.  

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Nurun Nabi, 28, a Shibir activist and diploma engineer from Chittagong Polytechnic Institute.

He succumbed to his injuries at burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday afternoon.

DMCH burn unit director Dr Samata Lal Sen confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Mohammed Shahidullah, additional deputy commissioner of North Zone of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police, also confirmed the matter.

On October 7, a massive explosion rocked the Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Madrasa run by the senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Hefajat-e-Islam Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury at Lalkhan Bazar, leaving at least five people injured critically.

Of the injured, Habibur Rahman succumbed to his injuries on October 8 while Zubair Ahmed died on October 9 at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Police recovered four hand grenades and explosive-making materials from the madrasa dormitory. Three cases were filed, accusing 12 individuals, including Mufti Izhar.
