Workers-cops clash injures 30 in Ashulia

SAVAR, DHAKA: At least 30 people were injured in a clash between readymade garments workers and police in Ashulia, outskirts of the capital, on Monday morning.

Sources said garments workers of Liberty Fashion Limited have been staging protests, for the last few days, demanding their due salary and allowances.

Additional police forces were deployed from Monday morning to avert further untoward situation.

Clash erupted when the workers tried to block the Jirani-Rangamati road and Nabinagar-Chandra highway at around 11:00am while police tried to obstruct them.

Later, police and workers locked into chase and counter chase.

Law enforcers opened fire over hundred rounds of teargas shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control that left 30 workers injured, repors banglanews correspondent.

Inspector of Industrial Police Abdus Sattar told banglanews: “The situation is now under control.”
