Clash with cops hurt 10 in Tongi

GAZIPUR: Following the death of fellow worker in a road accident, at least 10 workers of Readymade Garment were injured in a clash with police on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Barobari area of the district on Saturday morning.

Sources said that a readymade garments worker was killed in a road accident at around 9:00am. For protesting the incident workers took to the street and started vandalizing vehicles.

On information police rushed to the spot and fired rubber bullets and tear shells to disperse the agitating workers, leaving 10 people injured.

The incident halted vehicle movements in the area for an hour from 9:00am.

On the other hand, workers of a garments factory in Barobari of Gazipur Sadar Thana staged protest procession demanding increase of salary-allowance.

Tongi police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter to banglanews.
