DHAKA: Two Supreme Court lawyers filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of making public the phone conversation between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Advocate Faruk Hossain amd Advocate Abdullah Al Baki filed the petition with concerned department of the HC.
Lawyers said the writ will be placed in the HC bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul-Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain.
The petitioners also urged the HC to issue rule on authorities concerned to explain why the release of the phone conversation should not be declared illegal and why legal action should not be taken against involved.
Information secretary, home secretary, information and communication technology secretary, television owners’ association, Bangladesh Television and other concerned were made defendants in the writ.
Adv Abdullah Al Baki told banglanews that the Section 43 of the constitution called for secrecy in communication and the Information Communications Technology Act termed it a punishable offence. Mentioning the two laws, we filed the writ petition.
On October 26, the two top leaders made the phone call over an initiative to hold dialogue for consensus over the polls-time government.
