A defamation complaint has been lodged against Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP), for allegedly associating the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the brutal murder of journalist Tuhin.
Tanvir Siraj, president of Basan Thana BNP, filed the complaint at the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Gazipur, seeking Tk10 crore in damages for defamation.
Siraj accused Sarjis of spreading baseless allegations on Facebook that unfairly linked the BNP to the killing of Tuhin, who was murdered for filming a criminal gang. “Without knowing the facts, Sarjis’s propaganda has tarnished the party’s reputation,” he said.
He added, “The Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner has already revealed the truth behind the murder, confirming no political involvement. Following party directives, I have filed this case and hope for justice.”
The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Al Mamun directed the Gazipur CID to investigate the complaint and submit a report during the next hearing.
