A Dhaka court today showed four people, including former ministers Rashed Khan Menon and Golam Dastagir Gazi, arrested in a case filed over the killing of Md Shahjahan during the July–August Mass Uprising in the capital’s Mohakhali area.
The other two shown arrested are former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadekur Rahman passed the order after police produced the four before the court and sought permission to show them arrested in the case lodged with Banani Police Station.
The court later sent all four accused back to jail.
According to the case statement, Md Shahjahan joined an anti-discrimination rally under the Mohakhali Flyover on July 19, 2024. The rally reportedly came under attack by alleged activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations.
Shahjahan was shot in the chest and abdomen and later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital four days after the incident.
His mother, Sajeda Begum, filed the case on December 18, 2024, with Banani Police Station.
