Nahid alleges ‘silent consent’ behind attacks on Adviser Mahfuj

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has accused the interim government and its advisory council of creating a "silent consensus" to facilitate the killing of Adviser Mahfuj Alam.

In a post on his verified Facebook account on Saturday (Sep 13), Nahid said there had been an attempted assault on Mahfuj in London, along with earlier attempts in the United States.

He said that repeated attacks by Awami League supporters indicate Mahfuj is being deliberately targeted and warned that others could be next.

The NCP chief alleged that the interim government has not taken strong action or issued any firm condemnation over the incidents, and that neither advisers nor the press secretary have responded publicly.

"Within the government and the advisory council, a silent consent has been created to humiliate and kill Mahfuj Alam. This government and its advisers are exploiting Mahfuj and others at will and now pushing them towards death," he wrote, adding that those responsible "will suffer."

He also warned of a political response in the future.

Nahid framed the attacks as part of a broader pattern, accusing some groups of using anti-fascism rhetoric as a cover to pursue reactionary and revenge politics, which he said could ultimately revive fascism.
