Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the passing of eminent folk singer Farida Parveen.
In a condolence message, he said the death of the country’s renowned folk artist was an “irreparable loss” to Bangladesh’s music arena.
“Bangladesh’s legendary Lalon Geeti singer Farida Parveen captivated generations of music lovers with the magic of Baul songs. The songs sung in her voice will continue to fascinate audiences for years to come,” Fakhrul said.
He noted that beyond Lalon Geeti, Farida Parveen also won the hearts of countless people with her versatile performances across various genres. “Her death has created a huge void in the world of folk music and culture,” he added.
The BNP leader prayed for the eternal peace of her departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to her bereaved family, relatives, admirers, and well-wishers.
Farida Parveen, widely revered as the “Queen of Lalon Geeti,” breathed her last at a city hospital tonight at the age of 71.
