GAZIPUR: Voting for the by-election of Telihati Union Parisad under Sreepur Upazila is underway peacefully from Monday morning.

District Election Officer Hasanuzzaman said that the polling began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break.

Some 920 police men along with 16 magistrates were working for peaceful voting.

Besides, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) forces were deployed in the area.

Upazila election office sources said that some 34,613 voters, including 17,370 male and 17,240 female voters, are likely to cast their votes to elect their chairman.

The post fell vacant as Telihati Union Chairman Abdul Jalil was elected as chairman of Sreepur Upazila Parisad.
