CHITTAGONG: Jubilant supporters of unofficially elected Chittagong Mayor Mohammad Manjur Alam Friday morning took out victory processions across the port city ignoring the downpour.

Overwhelmed by the news of Manjur’s victory in the CCC election, his party colleagues came out on the street and brought out processions chanting slogans for their leader.

Returning officer Jesmin Tuli declared Chattagram Unnayan Andolan candidate Manjur elected unofficially at around 10:30am.

After announcing the polls results, Tuli said, “I’m very happy as the election was held in a peaceful manner. I’m hopeful that all will accept the results.”

She also requested the winning party for not bringing out any victory procession to avoid any untoward incident.

Amir Khashru Mahmood Chowdhury, chief election coordinator of Manjur, also requested the leaders and activists not to take out any jubilant procession.

A doa mahfil will be offered after Jum’a prayers today expressing gratitude to the Almighty Allah .
