DHAKA: Four petitions have been filed with separate trial courts seeking withdrawal of Production warrant (PW) issued against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in Niko, Gatco, Barapukuria and Zia Charitable cases.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer advocate Sanaullah Mia filed the petitions with four trial courts in Dhaka on Thursday (May 17).
Trials of Niko, Gatco, Barapukuria and Zia Charitable cases are undergoing in Dhaka special judge’s court-9,3,2 and 5 respectively.
However, Dhaka court-9 withdrew the production warrant issued against Khaleda Zia in Niko graft case. But the judges of court-2, 3 have already heard the petitions in Barapukuria and Gatco corruption cases and will pass orders later in the day.
On the other hand, court fixed June 4 for passing its order on the production warrant in Zia Charitable graft case.
Earlier on February 8, a Dhaka court sentenced five years imprisonment to Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict.
On February 20, Khaleda’s lawyers filed bail appeal with the high Court.
On March 12, the HC granted bail to Khaleda Zia and the state and ACC filed petitions with the appellate division against the HC bail order.
On May 16, the Supreme Court upheld the HC bail order rejecting the petitions.
