DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reiterated demand of reforming the Election Commission alleging that the present commission is not capable of holding free, fair polls.
He came up with this demand at a press conference held in city’s Naya Paltan party office on Thursday (May 17).
The BNP leader posed this question, “Those (EC) who can not conduct a city corporation election fairly and secure people’s rights, how will they manage a fair national election?”
“I have said many times, we want not only resignation of this Election commissioner but also reformation of the body. We demand another EC after dissolution of the current one, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
Mentioning Khulna City Corporation election, he said, “The ruling party breached people’s voting rights. According to reports, unethical practices like vote robbery, occupying polling stations have been conducted in an unprecedented manner.”
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir denounced the irregularities, which took place in KCC election on May 15.
Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokan, Organizing Secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, Bilkis Jahan Shirin, Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Central leader Zainal Abedin, Mir Newaz Ali Newaz, Abdus Salam were present in the Joint Session. Azad, Asadul Karim Shahin, Munir Hossain, Belal Ahmed, John Gomes, Abul Kalam Azad, Hafez Abdul Malek, Munsi Bose Abdul Basit anju, abulabasara Kazi Nurul Islam Nasim, Sultana Ahmed were present at the press conference.
