DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader asked the Hindu communities of the country not to think of themselves as minority but to stand tall as they have the equal rights.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said it while addressing as chief guest at the Bi-annual conference of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad on Friday (May 18).
He told the Hindu communities, “Why would you consider yourselves as minority? You have the same rights as Muslims and your votes count equally. Our Constitution guarantees equal rights to all our citizens. Don’t think of yourselves as weak and stand tall with your head high.”
“We all make mistakes time to time but remember you don’t have a better friend than AL in this country. I think you all remember the persecution after the 2001 election. Sheikh Hasina is your closest one here, not BNP. They are friends of Pakistan and therefore can not be friends of you”, Quader added.
